Our data sources
Wage data: Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment & Wage Statistics (OEWS). Updated annually. We pull hourly wages at the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentiles for each trade and metro area.
Platform take rates: NELP, “Unpacking Uber & Lyft’s Predatory Take Rates” (July 2025). Found average effective take rates of 42% for Uber/Lyft, with individual rides reaching 65-70%. We use blended averages that include hidden fees and upfront pricing spread.
Driver earnings: Gridwise (500k+ driver dataset). Tracks real driver earnings across Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, and Shipt.
Home service platforms: Fee structures sourced from official platform documentation (TaskRabbit Help Center, Angi Pro pricing, Thumbtack Pro dashboard) cross-referenced with contractor community reports.
